Michael Gibson

Michael Gibson

Co-Founder of 1517 Fund

Michael Gibson (@William_Blake) is a co-founder of the 1517 Fund, a venture capital firm seeking to ignite a “new Reformation” by backing college dropouts and renegade founders. 1517 has invested more than $175 mm in deep tech start-ups and is currently investing out of its fourth fund, with past and current investments including Luminar, Loom, Lambda Labs, Positron, Xona Space Systems, and Atom Computing. He previously helped start the Thiel Fellowship, a highly selective program that pays young people to skip college to build companies. Michael is also the author of I Will Pay You to Drop Out, which is a behind the scenes account of his experience running the Thiel Fellowship and 1517. Michael originally studied philosophy at Oxford.

Michael will discuss early-stage venture investing, talk about his book and thoughts on the world, and share his filter for identifying winning entrepreneurs.

Robert Robotti (@BobRobotti) is a renowned value investor. He is the President and Chief Investment Officer of Robotti & Company, an investment firm he founded in 1983 after being introduced to investing while auditing Tweedy, Browne and then working at Gabelli & Company. Bob currently serves on the boards of Tidewater (TDW) and is the Chairman of Pulse Seismic (PSD.TO); among others, he was previously on the boards of BMC Building Materials (which is now part of Builders FirstSource (BLDR)) and PrairieSky Royalty Trust (PSK.TO). He holds a BS from Bucknell University and an MBA in Accounting from Pace University.

Bob will discuss the investment landscape, explore the commodity and energy sectors, share some of his current investment ideas, and offer insights from his distinguished career.

David Orr

David Orr (@orrdavid) runs Militia Capital, a top-performing hedge fund, as well as the Militia Long/Short Equity ETF (NASDAQ: ORR). Together, the two entities have more than $700 mm of assets under management. David was previously a professional poker player and is well-known on Twitter for his outspoken views on investing. He attended the University of Oregon.

David will walk us through his differentiated investment approach, discuss his current market and geopolitical views, and share his vision for the financial firm he is seeking to build over the long-term.

Meb Faber (@MebFaber) is the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Cambria Investment Management, which has over $3 billion of ETF assets under management. Cambria’s ETFs are generally systematic, value-driven, and tax-aware, and the firm has become a leader in tax-efficient Section 351 ETF exchanges. Meb is also the host of the popular The Meb Faber Show podcast and has authored numerous white papers and books. He is a frequent speaker and writer on investment strategies and has been featured in Barron's, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. Meb graduated from the University of Virginia with a double major in Engineering Science and Biology.

Meb will discuss his approach to the world of ETF investing, provide more details about 351 ETF exchanges, and share stories from his hugely successful podcast.
